I am a retired Army Nurse Corps Officer (1970-1990), and am a member of the Hawai'i County Veterans Advisory Committee. I currently serve as Vice Chair of the Committee. The intent of Bill 60 is to expand the potential pool of Veterans Advisory Committee members so that the committee is better able to assess the needs of the veterans in this community and to advise the Mayor accordingly. Unfortunately, some of the organizations listed in Hawaii Code 1983 no longer meet for various reasons or are unable at this time to recruit one of their members to serve on the Veterans Advisory Committee. In those instances, rather than leaving a seat on the committee vacant for an organization that is unable to fill it, it would seem prudent to open more positions to members-at-large so that the committee can continue with its work in support of all veterans in this community. Please allow this statement to serve as written testimony as support for Bill 60. Thank you, Marcia J. Brinkley MAJ(Ret.), U.S. Army Nurse Corps Comm. No. Ref. To: P Ref. Date AUG 1 7 2021
