Subject: Support for Honua'ula Living Community
Aloha Councilmember Inaba:
I am writing in strong support of Honua'ula Living Community's 201H application to build 112
affordable apartments in your district.
Our communities across the island have been dealing with problems associated with the lack of
affordable housing for a long time and the COVID crisis has made it that much more urgent. Our
island would greatly benefit from your approval of Honua'ula Living Community in an effort as a
start to address this issue.
As Finance Director of Habitat for Humanity Hawaii Island, every day I see that there is a
significant gap between adequately housing our residents in affordable housing and property
available that can meet this need. As a grassroots organization, we try to address this issue, but
we can only be part of the solution for this widespread matter. I hope that through the approval of
Honua'ula Living Community's 201H application, our County will move closer to effectively
address this long-standing challenge and provide more residents with much needed housing.
Taking a multi-pronged approach with the involvement of many different solution providers, we
can more quickly address the problem, benefitting residents who need the solution today.
Thank you for considering Honua'ula Living Community's 201H application.
Sincerely,
Chris Marlett Patulski
