Aloha Council Members,
Community Alliance Partners (CAP) strongly supports Res 179-21.
CAP is a coalition of Hawaii Island's homeless service providers, government representatives
and community stakeholders working together in partnership to end homelessness.
Currently the biggest barrier to reducing the number of families experiencing homelessness or
falling into homelessness is the severe lack of affordable housing.
Families, especially young families with young children, are some of the most economically
stressed households in our community. They are at most risk for homelessness.And this is
reflected in the data which indicates that 30% of all homeless individuals are children.
The Honua'ula Affordable Housing Project in Kailua-Kona will add 112 affordable housing units
—at 60% or below Area Median Income—with units ranging in size from 1 bedroom to 4
bedroom. 44 of the units will be project based for households with an income between 30% and
50% of Area Median Income.
We ask that you support Res 179-21 and help expand the number of affordable units available
for our families.
