Funds of$21,200.10 will be used to identify productive and adaptable varieties of garlic to provide local growers with another crop that has great economic potential. REQUEST: Resolution authorizing County (via R & D) to enter into agreement with the University of Hawai"i, to provide funding for its "Evaluating Garlic Production in Hawaii County„ program. The funding to provide $21,200.10 to provide indentification of productive and adaptable varieties of garlicto provide local growers with another crop that has great economic potential, benefiting both the agricultural and food industries in Hawaii County. B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED Pursuant to Hawaii Revised Statutes §46-7, the County may enter into agreements with "any public body" with the consent of Council. R & D is requesting that Council approve a resolution authorizing R & D to enter into an agreement with the University of Hawaii, a public body, for the purposes of funding its program, "Evaluating Garlic Production in Hawaii County" pursuant to HCC 2-139(31(cj The program furthers agriculture by lessening the dependence on imported foods and promoting access to locally grown food and food security.
