Re: Agreement with the State of Hawaii Department of Education
Enclosed is a resolution to enter into an agreement with the State of Hawaii Department
of Education on behalf of Ka`u High School and Pahala Elementary School. Funds of
$75,000 will be used to support the Agri-preneurship Academy Sustainable Food
Systems, Agri-preneurship Academy Renewable Energy and Agri-preneurship Academy
Greenhouse projects.

A. REQUEST:
Resolution authorizing County, Research and Development Department, (R&D),to enter into an agreement
with Department of Education, State of Hawaii, on behalf of Ka`u High and Pahala Elementary School. The
funding to provide $75,000 to support the following programs: 1)Agri-preneurship Academy Sustainable
Food Systems Project; 2) Agri-preneurship Academy Renewable Energy Program; and 3) Agri-preneurship
Academy Greenhouse Project.

B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDEDI: j
Pursuant to Hawaii Revised Statues §46-7, the County may enter into agreements with "any public body"
with the consent of Council. (R&D) is requesting that Council approve a resolution authorizing (RD) to enter
into an agreement with Department of Education, State of Hawaii, on behalf of Ka'u High and Pahala
Elementary School, a public body, for the funding of Agri-preneurship Academy Projects pursuant HCC
2-139(3)(c).
The projects furthers agriculture and renewable energy.
Funds are from 2021-2022 Fiscal Year Budget.
