Conventional homes are duly inspected on site, including those with pre-fabricated components or materials,so must factory-built homes as we keep in mind the damage that can occur via factory defects, shipping, and assembly. So many things could go wrong that would threaten the lives of those moving into these lower cost homes that we can easily inspect for. From building stress by placement on an uneven or otherwise compromised site,to shipping damaged electrical, plumbing,or gas,it is not too much to ask that these homes be held to the same inspection process that conventional homes are held to prevent safety issues and liability from lax oversight. An inspection would allow time to make repairs BEFORE families occupy these homes, and if nothing wrong on these very standard box units, hey, wonderful, easy inspection! We definitely appreciate the cost benefits that factory built homes offer, and local residents need affordable housing options. These amendments simply ensure that among all these great new options, all housing, including factory-built housing,is properly inspected and safe for its occupants.
