Aloha Hawaii County Council members,
As a property manager, I get calls all the time where people are seeking housing and can't afford anything for their families. We all
know this is a crisis and yet there are a few solutions. One of those solutions is manufactured housing&it is before you today. I urge
you to consider this bill as a step forward for many families who are struggling because they can't afford the current rents and they
cannot to buy in this economy with prices soaring. Much of this problem has been caused by outside money that comes in and
leaves our families in trouble. A stable home is a foundation for so many of the benefits that we enjoyed as children, and yet it is not
offered to many young families &older kapuna!
I remember when my mom was in her 60s and could not afford a place to live. It was a manufactured home that gave her the
solution. That was available in another state but it is not available here. A manufactured home was the place where she could enjoy
her last year's of life.
The additional amendments limit families choices and only allow for one type of stick built housing construction. Have you seen the
cost of lumber lately and how much it has increased over the last two years? It's up over 150%! Families who need a factory built
home to meet their families housing needs, should have that opportunity.This is the way to attain and build more affordable
housing units which are so desperately needed on our island.
I sincerely think that the traffic issue should not be a factor.
I am part of the community emergency response team and can tell you that, with the home of your own,you can work to make that
home more resilient against natural disasters where you would never do that in a rental property. If we are concerned about
protecting our families,we need to consider this bill without amendments.
