Because the proposed development would destroy a pre-contact dwelling which is a SIIPD site, I do not support it. Further, any loss of Agriculture land on a severely food insecure island in the midst of global climate catastrophe is a very, very dangerous thing. We also need real solutions to truly affordable housing for local and native people, not empty promises or manipulative claims used only to gain approval for development. Many current residents of Kalaoa are already supplying food to our local grocery stores and communities. Rezoning any part of this land would undermine their efforts, contributions to the community, and ability to stay in FIawai I i. I would like to reference the testimony submitted by Jaime Funakoshi and add my voice in support. Rejecting this proposal provides an opportunity to protect a culturally important site, while simultaneously supporting local sustainability AND preserving native and local presence in their own home lands. All of these things make Hawai'i, Hawai'i, and I know nobody wants to lose that. To this end, please vote NO on Bill 52 and Bill 53. Mahalo for your time and consideration. -Meredith Buck 96740 Comm.
