Aloha Councilmember Inaba:
I ani writing in strong support of Honua'ula Living Community's 201H application to build 112
affordable apartments in your district.
Our communities have been dealing with problems associated with the lack of affordable housing
for a long time and the COVID crisis has made it that much more urgent, Our island would greatly
benefit from your approval of HonuaVa Living Community to effectively address this issue.
I have lived on the big island for 45 years, I have seen it grow in so many ways. When I got here,
no Costco, Walmart or big box anything.
In all these years as the population grows the affordable housing is not.
I am a grandma raising my three grandchildren on limited income and have lived in illegal coffee
shacks, with leaky roofs, rats. termite infested because that is all I could afford at the time. A lot
of rentals are a 2-year waiting list or has turned in to air brnb's,or far too expensive. This island is
big enough for affordable housing and is long overdue.
I hope that through the approval of Honua'ula Living Community's 201 H application,our County
will move closer to effectively address this long-standing issue and provide our residents with
much needed housing.
