Your Committee on Parks and Recreation and Public Safety, to which was referred Bill No. 66,
reports as follows:
Bill No. 66, transmitted via Communication No. 386, from Sue Lee Loy, Council Member for
District 3, dated September 2, 20,21, amends Chapter 15, Article 7, Section 15-63, of the Hawai`i
County Code 1983 (2016 edition, as amended),relating to the Veterans Advisory Committee.
This measure requires the chairperson to have served in the United States Uniformed Services,
_ and replaces the word"chairman"with"chairperson".
Deputy Director Michelle Hiraishi from Department of Parks and Recreation appeared via zoom
and confirmed the reason for the amendment. Ms. Lee Loy briefly commented that this
amendment also included gender neutral references.
The vote was then taken on the motion to move this measure to Council with a positive
recommendation and passed with eight"ayes."
Your Committee on Parks and Recreation and Public Safety is in accord with the purpose and
intent of Bill No. 66, and recommends its passage on first reading.
