Re: Resolution Accepting Donation
Enclosed is a resolution accepting a donation of a Live Find Tracking K9 with K9 and
handler training from the Hawaii Island K9 Association, P.O. Box 6667, Hilo, HI
96720. This Live Find Tracking K9, valued at $16,000 (with training), will be used by
the Police Department's Juvenile Aid Section to replace the current K9 that is due to
retire and assist in tracking missing children and endangered adults.
The Police Department is requesting that this resolution be waived from the Finance
Committee and be placed on the October 6, 2021 Council agenda in order to expedite
receipt of this donation. If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to call Hauoli

A. REQUEST:
Please prepare a resolution to accept and acknowledge the following donations: 1)Live Find Tracking K9
trained by the Houston K9 Academy($10,000);2)Shipping,Vet cost,and Crating of K9($2,000); and 3)
Training for the K9 and Handler$50.00mr.x 40 hrs for Trainer and his acoommadations($4,000). The
estimated value is$16,000. These donations will be used by the Hawaii Police Department's Juvenile Aid
Section to replace the present K-9,which will be retired due to his age.
Please waive Finance Carmittee.

B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION(USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
The Live Find Tracking K9 will be benificiai to the Hawaii Police Department to track missing children and
endangered adults. The K9 will also be used for educational purposes in our elementary and middle
schools.

RE: RESOLUTION NO. 216-21 : A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE
ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION OF A LIVE FIND TRACKING K9 WITH K9
AND HANDLER TRAINING TO THE COUNTY OF HAWAII POLICE
DEPARTMENT.
Pursuant to Section 2(g) of Rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure of the Council of the County of
Hawaii, this written request is submitted with my approval that the above-referenced matter be
waived from the Committee on Finance to the full Council for immediate action. In reviewing
this matter, timely approval is crucial. It is therefore advantageous that approval is granted and
the matter be placed onto the next Council agenda for review. However, in the event this request
is denied, for whatever reason, I understand the matter shall be referred to the Committee on
Finance for placement on its future agenda.
