Honorable Chair and Members of the Hawaii County Planning Committee:
The Waimea Hawaiian Civic Club, established 1949 and chartered by the Association of
Hawaiian Civic Clubs in 1959, is honored to submit this letter in support of the nomination of Faylene
Mahina Paishon-Duarte to the Leeward Planning Commission which is before this Committee.
Ms. Paishon-Duarte's nomination is a reflection, and,we believe, a clear recognition, of the
unique constellation of skills,talents,experience, and capabilities with which Ms.Paishon-Duarte has
served her community can be seen, for example, in her work in Indigenous Languages in Business,Aloha
'Rina Futures,as a principal and teacher in Hawaiian Charter Schools, in Pono Leadership for Hawaii,
and, in the multi-faceted physical and intellectual"space"and work that is Ka WaiWai Collective.
Our Leeward Planning Commission is in need of Ms.Paishon-Duarte's capabilities, experience,
and willingness to serve. The Waimea Hawaiian Civic Club therefore, strongly supports her nomination
to the Leeward Planning Commission and asks for a positive decision on her nomination.
