TESTIMONY
In support of the nomination of
Faylene Mahina Paishon-Duarte
to the Leeward Planning Commission
On behalf of

Aloha Chair Kierkiewicz and Council Members,
Please accept this testimony in full support of Ms. Faylene Mahina Paishon-Duarte to the Hawai'i
County Leeward Planning Commission. We fully support this nomination and believe that Ms.
Paishon-Duarte will bring a credible community voice, understanding of challenging issues facing
the West Hawaii community and level-headedness to the commission's deliberative processes.
She is very involved in community organizations on Hawaii Island, such as Vibrant Hawaii, Na
Kalai Wa`a, Hui 'Oihana Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce, Uluha`o o Hualalai, served as a
volunteer moderator for the Hawaii Island Sustainability Conference 2021, is a board member
for Trust For Public Lands, Hawai'i Chapter. She is an Omidyar Fellow and a skilled facilitator and
has worked with many community groups and organizations to address challenging and
sometimes contentious issues.
Mahina is one of the founding authors of the 'Aina Aloha Economic Futures Initiative. She has
been instrumental in creating this forward thinking vision of Hawai'i's potential, based on the
values and lifeways of our kupuna which was endorsed and supported by the Hawaii County
Council in 2020.
On behalf of'Aina Aloha Economic Futures Hui, we strongly urge you to support the nomination
of Faylene Mahina Paishon-Duarte to the Leeward Planning Commission.
