REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON FINANCE <br /> DATE: September 21, 2021 Re: Comm.No. 391/Res No. 202-21 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 1:15 p.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance,to which was referred Resolution No. 202-21,reports as follows: <br /> Resolution No. 202-21,transmitted by Director of Finance Deanna S. Sako via Communication No. 391 <br /> dated September 2, 2021, authorizes the Office of the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the <br /> University of Hawai`i. <br /> This resolution provides $21,200.10 from the Department of Research and Development to the <br /> University of Hawai`i to fund its "Evaluating Garlic Production in Hawai`i County"program. <br /> Research and Development Economic Development Specialist Glenn Sako provided background on the <br /> program and the funding need. <br /> Upon request by Committee Member Ashley L. Kierkiewicz, Mr. Sako confirmed that the three <br /> locations would be in the fields, rather than in controlled climates. <br /> Committee Member Herbert M. "Tim"Richards III asked Mr. Sako if this program involves potentially <br /> developing the garlic export market.
