SOLUTION NO. 230 21
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO FRIENDS OF THE
FUTURE FOR THE LIGHT UP THE NIGHT AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
COMMUNITY AWARENESS CAMPAIGN.
WHEREAS, Friends of the Future, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, hosts programs
and initiatives that provide hands-on, place-based learning opportunities to preserve and
perpetuate the island's culture and strives to establish connections among Hawaii Island's
diverse people so they can create shared visions and continuously improve their communities;
and
WHEREAS, October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and Friends of the Future
is working in partnership with the North Hawaii Domestic Violence Action Center to coordinate
pop-up informational sites for the Light Up the Night Against Domestic Violence community
awareness campaign; and
WHEREAS,these pop-up sites will provide essential supplies to victims of domestic
violence, educational pamphlets and support information on domestic violence awareness, and
face masks for the community; and
WHEREAS, Friends of the Future is requesting funds to cover expenses for marketing
and promotional items, pamphlets, face masks, and essential supplies that will be distributed to
the community and victims of domestic violence during the Light Up the Night Against
Domestic Violence community awareness campaign during the month of October; and
WHEREAS, the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney supports domestic violence
prevention and intervention initiatives to improve the quality of life for Hawaii Island residents;
and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 1 will be appropriated to the Office of the
Prosecuting Attorney to provide a grant to Friends of the Future for the Light Up the Night
Against Domestic Violence community awareness campaign.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Prosecuting Attorney and Director of Finance, and that the Director of Finance is
hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
