Re: Operating Budget
In the current Budget Ordinance 21-38, $74,000 is appropriated in the Police
Department's Distracted Driving Project account. Additional federally-derived funds in
the amount of$97,880.80 are being provided by the State of Hawaii Department of
Transportation to fund operations focused on reducing the number of drivers using
electronic devices while operating vehicles.
Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating these
additional funds into the Hawaii County Police's Distracted Driving Project account,
bringing the total appropriation to $171,880.80.
The Police Department requests that this bill be waived from the Finance Committee and
be placed on the November 3, 2021 Council agenda in order to expedite the receipt of
these funds. If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to call Hauoli Aiona of the
Hawaii County Police Department at 961-2273.
