A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HOʻŌLA VETERAN SERVICES
FOR ITS HAWAIʻI FARM-TO-CAR PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, Hoʻōla Veteran Services (dba Hoʻōla Farms) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides agricultural training, hands-on educational opportunities, and therapy options
for veterans, their families, and communities with hopes of creating a more sustainable future and well-being for all; and
WHEREAS, Hoʻōla Veteran Services’ Hawaiʻi Farm-to-Car program helps farmers and producers on Hawai‘i Island to sell their products directly to local consumers through an online farmers
market with a weekly, curbside pickup at Puna Hongwanji Mission; and
WHEREAS, shopping virtually on Hawaiʻi Farm-to-Car is an innovative and convenient way for farmers, producers, and residents to stay safe during the COVID-19 pandemic; and
WHEREAS, Hoʻōla Veteran Services is requesting funds to help cover continued operational expenses such as site location fee, grocery bag holders, ice packs, signage, and supplies for
its Hawaiʻi Farm-to-Car program; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development’s mission is to support the development of a local economy that is diverse, stable, and in balance with Hawaiʻiʻs ecology, community,
and culture; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to the Department of Research and Development to provide
a grant to Hoʻōla Veteran Services for its Hawaiʻi Farm-to-Car program.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
