Dear Chair Kimball and Vice Chair Kierkiewicz,
On behalf of the members of the Hawai'i Island Housing Coalition, I would like to submit this letter and
written testimony in support of Resolution 241-21 URGING THE OFFICE OF HOUSING AND COMMUNITY
DEVELOPMENT TO CONDUCT A STUDY ON THE COUNTY'S INCLUSIONARY ZONING POLICIES, PURSUANT
TO SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 3,AND TO DEVELOP A STRATEGIC ROADMAP FOR HOUSING
DEVELOPMENT ON HAWAII ISLAND.
The Hawaii Island Housing Coalition is a diverse community working group within the Vibrant Hawaii
initiative and non-profit that is focused on the complex and comprehensive issue of attainable housing
in our community. Identifying possible barriers that may be contributing to our growing housing crisis as
well as opportunities to influence change and promote effective housing solutions are among our many
priorities and strategies.
As proposed, Resolution 241-21 encourages the County of Hawai'i Office of Housing and Community
Development(OHCD)to review existing policies that may or may not be effective in addressing our
community's housing needs and to develop a "Strategic Roadmap"to guide future housing development
for our island. Passage of this resolution will help to further emphasize the magnitude of our housing
crisis and provide support and endorsement of the actions of the OHCD in developing effective housing
solutions.
Thank you for the opportunity to provide testimony in support of Resolution 241-21 and I strongly
encourage your support and passage of this measure.
Th k you,
larry liveria Co-Chair
Hawai'i Island Housing Coalition
Comm.hio.
