Please accept for the record my personal testimony supporting Resolution 235-21:
Hawaii Farm-To-Car online farmer's market began as an innovative response to COVID-19, and has since grown into
a food hub that is vital to the community it serves. I am testifying both as a farmer and a customer of the market. As a
farmer,the online market allows me to sell produce directly to customers as I would at an in-person market, but with
the added efficiency of orders placed in advance, and the added safety of the market being totally virtual. This saves
our farm money, time, labor, and any uncertainty of sales in a live marketplace. As a customer, I value shopping local
whenever I can: Hawaii Farm-To-Car features exclusively local products from across the island on a safe and
convenient platform. My family relies on Farm-to-Car to enable us to purchase locally raised food and groceries on a
weekly basis with a safe pick-up process. By voting to support Hawaii Farm-To-Car, you are voting to support the
community's access to local food, farmers' ability to market their products locally, and Hawaii County's overall
resiliency.
