Why is the County ignoring County Charter amendments aimed at strengthening the 2%
program?
Scores of citizens worked for years to start up the Public Access, Open Space and Natural
Resources Preservation program in 2006. It is funded by 2% of the property tax revenue.
Last year voters approved an amendment calling for a 2% Administrator to acquire properties,
seek matching funds, and pursue grants for stewardship of the lands. Voters also approved a
second amendment to expedite grants to nonprofits doing maintenance and stewardship.
Why has neither amendment been acted on? Please support the will of the voters to preserve
and protect our special places!
