Nov. 3, Finance Committee C) SUBJECT: Support Comm. 461, 9 AM Wed. Nov. 3, Finance Committee Aloha County Council Officials, My name is Lorna Larsen-Jeyte and I live in Volcano. I grew up in Hilo and retu b d Volcano in 1987 to open Kilauea Lodge. -- I AM THE PROUDEST OF OUR ISLAND ACHIEVEMENTS WHEN I SEE THE LANDS THAT HAVE GONE INTO CONSERVATION FOR PERPETUITY! Too Many, Too Many use land grabs for short term return on profit. Profit for ...bigger houses, trips to Vegas, gas guzzling cars. and then POOF! it's gone. Land for our children and grandchildren, for birds, fish and crabs, and a peaceful environment....gone into development for profit. PLEASE let's keep our 2% Preservation of Land Fund and improve it. Why is the County ignoring County Charter amendments aimed at strengthening the 2% program? Dozens of citizens worked for years to start up the Public Access, Open Space and Natural Resources Preservation program in 2006. Last year voters approved an amendment calling for a 2% Administrator to acquire properties, seek matching funds, and pursue grants for stewardship of the lands. Voters also approved a second amendment to expedite grants to non-profits doing maintenance and stewardship. Why has neither amendment been acted on? Please support the will of the voters to preserve and protect our special places! For long term vision of our island, please don't gut the Amendment requiring an adminstrator. BUT keep a careful eye on not overhiring. We, the people, voted in favor of the Land Preservation Resolution and we LOVE it. Please figure out other ways to save money for our budget. I urge you. I beg you. Mahalo Lorna Comm. No. K__1 Ref. To: Ref, tete NOV m 3 202
