Subject: Hawaii County Council Resolution No. 223-21
Aloha,
I am writing in support of resolution 223-21. As a small, certified organic coffee farm in South Kona, we are being
unfairly impacted by the 10% rule. Cheese labeled as "Wisconsin cheese" has to be made in Wisconsin. Idaho
potatoes HAVE to be grown in Idaho. These regions are famous for their products and their labeling laws protect the
producers from infringement of inferior products. Likewise, Kona is famous for its unique coffee but the 10% rule
means that 90% of the coffee included in blends is NOT grown in Kona but is being passed off as such. As
Councilwoman Maile David has stated, it's time to put truth back in advertising. 51% is the bare minimum amount of
Kona coffee that should be included in blends labeled as a Kona blend. Please help us maintain the integrity of real
Kona coffee.
Mahalo,
Cheryl Wells
