N1h- <br /> O.' y <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII _• STATE OF HAWAII <br /> 14 <br /> ori aF.N�,.p <br /> RESOLUTION No. I <br /> F <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED <br /> FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HAWAII ENVIRONMENTAL <br /> RESTORATION FOR EXPENSES RELATED TO THE CONSERVATION AND <br /> PRESERVATION OF KEAU`OHANA STATE FOREST RESERVE. <br /> WHEREAS, Hawaii Environmental Restoration(HER) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit <br /> organization whose mission is to help restore the natural integrity of Hawai`i's environment; and <br /> WHEREAS, HER's primary focus is on the restoration and preservation of Keau`ohana <br /> State Forest Reserve to protect our precious, rare, and endemic species such as the uluhe fern, <br /> ahi`a, `ohe, and ha`iwale; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the Keau`ohana State Forest Reserve in Puna is the largest and most intact <br /> lowland rainforest remaining below 1,000 feet in the State of Hawaii; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Hawaiian Island ecosystems continue to be lost to development, <br /> agriculture and invasive species, and there is an urgent need for conservation planning and <br /> implementation; and <br /> WHEREAS, HER is requesting funds for expenses related to conservation and <br /> preservation programming and equipment to steward the Keau`ohana State Forest Reserve; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development supports the development of <br /> a local economy that is diverse, stable, and in balance with Hawai`i's ecology, community <br /> character, and cultural heritage; and <br /> WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Research and Development to provide a grant to Hawaii Environmental Restoration for <br /> expenses relating to the conservation and preservation programming and equipment to steward <br /> the Keau`ohana State Forest Reserve. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
