HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 265 Draft 01 2020-2022A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HAWAI‘I ENVIRONMENTAL RESTORATION
FOR EXPENSES RELATED TO THE CONSERVATION AND PRESERVATION OF KEAU‘OHANA STATE FOREST RESERVE.
WHEREAS, Hawai‘i Environmental Restoration (HER) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to help restore the natural integrity of Hawai‘i’s environment; and
WHEREAS, HER’s primary focus is on the restoration and preservation of Keau‘ohana State Forest Reserve to protect our precious, rare, and endemic species such as the uluhe fern, ōhiʻa,
ʻohe, and haʻiwale; and,
WHEREAS, the Keau‘ohana State Forest Reserve in Puna is the largest and most intact lowland rainforest remaining below 1,000 feet in the State of Hawai‘i; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaiian Island ecosystems continue to be lost to development, agriculture and invasive species, and there is an urgent need for conservation planning and implementation;
and
WHEREAS, HER is requesting funds for expenses related to conservation and preservation programming and equipment to steward the Keau‘ohana State Forest Reserve; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development supports the development of a local economy that is diverse, stable, and in balance with Hawai‘i’s ecology, community character, and
cultural heritage; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of Research and Development to provide
a grant to Hawai‘i Environmental Restoration for expenses relating to the conservation and preservation programming and equipment to steward the Keau‘ohana State Forest Reserve.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
