HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 264 Draft 01 2020-2022A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO KEAUKAHA SCHOOL
FOUNDATION FOR KEAUKAHA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL’S PRESCHOOL ACTIVITIES IN THE 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR.
WHEREAS, the Keaukaha School Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports the students and programs of Keaukaha Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, Keaukaha Elementary School has a preschool program that is an experimental grant project of the State Department of Education; and
WHEREAS, the preschool’s “Hands-On, Minds-On” program provides educational experiences outside the school campus that are critical to early learning comprehension, which allows young
children to establish a stronger association with objects and concepts through visual and tactile learning experiences; and
WHEREAS, to promote “Hands-On, Minds-On” learning, the preschool is coordinating various excursions that will include visits to the Pana‘ewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens, ‘Imiloa Astronomy
Center, Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Station, Hilo Air Traffic Control Tower, ‘Āina University, Hobby Garden Hawai‘i, Honomū Goat Dairy, Kaunamano Farms, O.K. Farms, and Prince
Kūhiō Plaza; and
WHEREAS, at the end of the school year, the preschool will have a graduation ceremony to celebrate the students’ “Hands-On, Minds-On” learning and academic achievements; and
WHEREAS, the Keaukaha School Foundation is requesting funds for transportation of students, admission fees, activity fees, and supplies for a graduation celebration; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation supports educational excursions and enrichment activities for the youth of Hawai‘i Island; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 3 will be appropriated to the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide
a grant to the Keaukaha School Foundation for Keaukaha Elementary School’s preschool activities in the 2021-2022 school year.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
