Aloha. We are happy to see momentum and organization leading to date and plans on
restoring roads such as Pohoiki as well as water to Isaac Hale park and the farmers of the
area.
We too share concern why much of the money allocated for specific lava zone repairs are
being funneled to other projects such as water systems in Kea'au and Shipmans. Restoring a
park at Issac Hale where families can enjoy picnics makes more sense than a golf course in
Hilo that hardly anyone from this area goes to. A better playground makes more sense as
would having a picnic and swimming area at the boat harbor area.
The Puna Makai Keiki have no safe place anymore to grow up and enjoy instead of engaging
in more dangerous activity. it's been three and a half years for any progress for the Puna
Makai community.
Another suggestion , if within your project allowance, would be to help improve the sidewalks
in downtown Pahoa. There are some sections that are very dangerous especially for children
and elderly people. The area would include from Kaleos to the post office.
I humbly wish to state that by no means am I a qualified consultant and that we do have
faith and trust in your ongoing search and examinations of solutions and willingness to take
the right steps for lower Puna recovery. There is also a feeling that the wheels of progress
have started and we all will have happier days ahead.
We pray that the county helps the community as soon as possible
