I am against small trailer bans at the transfer stations. I purchased a 4x8 trailer to pull behind my small car just to go
to the dump. It came in really handy when I was caring for my Mom and had to dispose of adult diapers that I did not
want to carry inside my car.
My trailer is fully legal to drive down the road. The current set up at Ocean View is drive through with no backing up
required. The current set up at Waiohinu can be accessed without backing up. The big rocks prevent you from
backing up close to the dumpster, so I just go 90 degrees to it and pull forward and turn to leave. No backing. I
would be willing to take a test to prove that I can back up a trailer. Probably better than some people can back up
their big pickups.
It seems that each year the County makes it harder to go to the dump. Reduced days open, no trailers, one load per
day. I have to snake multiple trips per week because I often cannot fit everything into the car in one trip. I used to
participate in neighborhood cleanups with my trailer, but no more. It is hard enough to get my own trash to the
dump. I'm sure that your numbers look like you have done a lot to reduce the amount of solid waste, but I can tell you
that a lot of it is getting tossed off the road sides.
I hope that the new facility at Waiohinu and the proposed new facility for Ocean View will be designed for small
trailers.
