The grant and its mission include highway speed enforcement to reduce speed in related motor vehicle traffic fatalities as well as speed on highway usage. Also enclosed is a resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter into agreement with the State Department of Transportation for this grant. STRATEGIES: ? Utilize 890 hours of overtime to enforce speeding laws on our roadways. ? Issue 1,780 citations for speeding ? Issue 900 citations for other violations. ? Make 20 arrests during traffic stops during enforcement efforts for warrant violations and other offenses. ? Enforce speed on Queen Kaahumanu Highway and Route 130 due to high fatalitiy rate. SOLUTIONS: ? Purchase of equipment to monitor traffic speed. ? Travel to commander's meeting to meet needs of group for enforcement efforts. ? Use overtime provide to establish enforcement of the speeding driver. ? Provide training for officers to reduce speed related collisions. EVALUATION: ? Reduce traffic speed-related deaths by 5 % from 64% to 61 ? Utilize speed measuring devices to control and deter speeders on roadways.
