It is my pleasure to nominate Mattias Kusch of Council District 2 to the Cost of Government
Commission.
Mr. Kusch retired in 2020 as Battalion Chief of Operations from the Hawaii County Fire
Department after an exceptional 25-year career. He is currently self-employed in marine
logistics and real estate, primarily affordable housing rentals.
Mr. Kusch is an active volunteer with EB DeSilva School, as President of the PTA and School
Community Council, as well as President of Hilo Bayfront Trails, Inc, and Committee Chair of
the West Hawaii Fisheries Council. If confirmed, he will serve a term from January 1, 2022 to
November 30, 2022.
