Aloha Council Chair David and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate Karie Wakat of Council District 8 to the Cost of Government
Commission.
Ms. Wakat retired in 2019 from the IT industry, where she was employed by IBM as a Software
Engineer. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in the Business Information Systems from
the University of Phoenix.
Ms. Wakat is an avid ocean protector and dedicated and passionate volunteer with several
organizations, including Kahalu`u Bay Education Center's Reef Teach, Ocean defenders
Alliance, and Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii, who care for our coastlines through fun, hands-on
beach cleanups and underwater debris dives. If confirmed, she will serve a term from January 1,
2022, to November 30, 2022.
