Subject: Testimony re: Glyphosate
Aloha,
My name is Meredith Buck, living in Kailua Kona, and I support the prohibition of the use of glyphosate-based
pesticides in County parks and facilities.
There has been much debate around the purported carcinogenic effects of glyphosate, but what has been long
acknowledged by the EU, European Chemical Agency, and European Food Safety Authority is that glyphosate is
"toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects". On an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean surrounded by critical
marine habitat, during the 6th mass extinction and an ongoing climate catastrophe, I would suggest that banning the
use of glyphosate in any place possible is a small step towards ensuring a livable future for humans and ocean
creatures alike. We can't afford to allow toxic agricultural runoff to impact the ocean any further.
I would like to also share the following article which shares valuable insight regarding the use of glyphosate and its
negative impacts on the environment & human life.

Mahalo nui loa for your time and attention to protecting the wellbeing of our island community and ecosystems.
