Subject: I am testifying in favor of Bill 91 (adding new article 12 prohibiting use of glyphosate-based
pesticides in county parks and recreation facilities)
Aloha Hawaii County Council, I am a Kona resident and I am writing to
testify that I am in favor of Bill 91 introduced by Council e ber Rebecca
Villegas. It is well-documented that glyphosate is a contaminant that will
poison our wetlands, the water table, and causes health problems when
ingested by people and animals alike (particularly major pollinators such as
honeybees and butterflies), especially in concentrated doses or in long-term
exposure such as commercial properties. I would life to add that I personally
would prefer that glyphosate was banned outright in the county so that the aina
and sea could heal from chemical contamination. Additionally I would not
have any exemptions to Bill 91 for facilities such as golf courses or
cemeteries. However, this bill banning glyphosate in county parks a great
start and I congratulate the council on this effort. Hopefully this bill will pass
and have more provisions added to in the near future. Our island will
appreciate it.
Mahalo for your hard work and for taking the time to hear my views. Jessica
