No. 534/Bill No. 98 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Hilo, Hawaii <br /> TIME: 9:01 a.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Parks and Recreation and Public Safety, to which was referred Bill No. 98, <br /> reports as follows: <br /> Bill No. 98, transmitted via Communication No. 534, from Sue Lee Loy, Council Member for <br /> District 3, dated November 24, 2021, amends Chapter 15, Article 8, Section 15-68.1 of the <br /> Hawaii County Code 1983 (2016 edition, as amended), by amending the Parks and Recreational <br /> Facility Schedule to reflect the naming of the rodeo arena grandstand at the Pana`ewa Equestrian <br /> Center. <br /> This measure would name the rodeo arena grandstand at the Pana`ewa Equestrian Center the <br /> "Alvin `Al' Cabral Rodeo Arena Grandstand" in honor of Alvin"Al" Cabral and amends the <br /> Parks and Recreational Facility Schedule to reflect the same. <br /> Director Maurice Messina from Department of Parks and Recreation was present in Hilo Council <br /> Chambers and explained that the community approached him with a petition to name the rodeo <br /> arena grandstand after Mr. Cabral, and that the Department of Parks and Recreation is in favor of <br /> this naming. <br /> Council Member Sue Lee Loy explained the importance of, and reasons for this naming. <br /> Mrs. Nancy Cabral commented on the enormous amount of work that her husband, Mr. Cabral, <br /> put into the Pana`ewa Equestrian Center over the years, and also expressed her gratitude.
