SUBJECT: Request for a presentation from Hawaiian Electric on clean energy and their renewable
energy portfolio
This memorandum is being submitted to request a 30-minute presentation from Hawaiian Electric
followed by a 15-minute discussion on the decarbonizing of energy production in Hawaii County. As
Hawaiian Electric reduces its reliance on imported fossil fuels,there is a need for generation resources
to provide reliable, resilient energy. The presentation will include information on Hawaiian Electric's
clean energy portfolio, including: proposed geothermal, wind, solar and biomass projects. Hawaiian
Electric expects that their renewable energy portfolio will provide close to 100% of electricity
generated on Hawaii Island by 2030.
Please place this item on the Regenerative Agriculture, Water, Energy, and Environmental
Management Committee agenda on January 18, 2022.
