Your Committee on Finance,to which was referred Communication No. 561, reports as follows:
Communication No. 561, transmitted by the Honorable Mayor Mitchell D. Roth dated
December 15, 2021, nominates Madeline Greene of Council District 4 to the Cost of Government
Commission.
Executive Assistant to the Mayor P6maika`i Bartolome introduced the nominee. Ms. Bartolome stated
that Ms. Greene retired in 2015 after a career as a business owner in Pahoa. Ms. Greene is a former
member of the Puna Community Development Plan Action Committee, current Vice President of the
Nanawale Community Association, and currently a member of Hui Aloha `O Puna Makai, Mainstreet
Pahoa Association, Hawaii County Economic Opportunity Council and Kanaka `O Puna.
If confirmed, Ms. Greene would serve a term from January 1, 2022, to November 30, 2022.
Ms. Greene briefly introduced herself and her background.
Committee Chair Matt Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder and Committee Members Ashley L. Kierkiewicz,
Susan L.K. Lee Loy, and Heather L. Kimball all provided comments in strong support of Ms. Greene's
nomination.
Pursuant to Section 5-2.2, Hawaii County Charter,there shall be a Cost of Government Commission
which shall be appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the Council.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication No. 561, and
recommends confirmation of the appointment of Madeline Greene to the Cost of Government
Commission.
