Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 562, reports as follows:
Communication No. 562, transmitted by the Honorable Mayor Mitchell D. Roth dated
December 16, 2021, nominates Shannon Matson of Council District 5 to the Cost of Government
Commission.
Executive Assistant to the Mayor Pomaika`i Bartolome introduced the nominee. Ms. Bartolome
stated that Ms. Matson is self-employed as a yoga teacher and a volunteer in the community. Along
with serving on the board of the Sierra Club, Recycle Hawaii and Ahava `Aina,Ms. Matson also
participates in Hawaii Wildlife Fund beach clean-ups and in food distribution events within the
community.
If confirmed, Ms. Matson would serve a term from January 1, 2022, to November 30, 2022.
Ms. Matson briefly introduced herself and her background.
Committee Chair Matt Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder and Committee Members Ashley L. Kierkiewicz and
Heather L. Kimball all provided comments in strong support of Ms. Matson's nomination.
Pursuant to Section 5-2.2, Hawaii County Charter, there shall be a Cost of Government Commission
which shall be appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the Council.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication No. 562, and
recommends confirmation of the appointment of Shannon Matson to the Cost of Government
Commission.
