Subject: Written Testimony in support of Bill 91
Aloha is kakou,
My name is Lehua Alapai and I am from Kalaoa Ahupua'a, District 8.
Z am testifying in support of Bill 91 which will BAN GLYPHOSATE in County Parks and
facilities. Thank you to Parks and Recreation for already moving in that direction.
This is an opportunity to set the tone for our community. My dad, brother, cousins and
nephews have been landscaping and using glyphosate-based pesticides for many years. It is
hard for them to break that habit. My father died of esophageal cancer 10 years ago and
although I can't say there was a direct correlation to pesticide use, I would like to err on the
side of caution and do what we can to protect `ohana and future generations from the
poisonous effects of glyphosate. Our community will follow, so mahalo for heading in that
direction.
Every person and family deserves a safe place to play and gather. My family frequently use
the Old Airport fields, Kekuaokalani Gym and Higashihara Park. Getting glyphosate use out of
those and other county areas is a great start.
