UNITED TESTIMONY BEFORE THE
HAWAII COUNTY COUNCIL
December 22, 2021
TESTIMONY ON BILL 91
Re: Banning Glyphosate
WE STRONGLY OPPPOSE Bill 91 .b
Aloha Chair and Council Members,
We oppose this, Bill; Why?
1. It accomplishes NOTHING! It's built on a false pretense that it's
needed. We all want to keep our keiki safe. That is why the County
took steps more than 2 years ago to reduce its herbicide use.
2. The bill ONLY puts what the County is already doing into the ordinance,
such as reducing pesticide use and recordkeeping.
3. It gives the activists leverage to come after ranchers and farmers, and
they will; it's not"if' it's when.
4. It provides the public a false sense of fear and security; it does nothing
to protect public safety or our keiki.
5. Instead of leading with science and data its passing laws based on
emotions, never a sage solution for public policy.
6. This bill, like the many others before it, have been promoted and even
written by national anti-pesticide/agriculture organizations like Center for
Food Safety, and Beyond Pesticides with their unregistered lobbyists.
The unintended consequence of passing this superficial bill is harming Hawaii's
farmers and ranchers who are being squeezed of their hope and their right to
farm and feed Hawaii. We respectfully ask you to lead with science and data.
