A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO LA‘I‘ŌPUA 2020 FOR
EXPENSES RELATING TO ITS KONA MELE PROJECT .
WHEREAS, La‘i‘ōpua 2020 is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide social, recreational, vocational, educational, and cultural opportunities to the community in
Kona; and
WHEREAS, La‘i‘ōpua 2020 along with Project Kuleana and Mana Maoli is coordinating Kona Mele Project in February 2022; and
WHEREAS, the Kona Mele Project will create educational material that honors historical landmark locations throughout Kona based on mele (song) and hula (dance) performed by Kona musicians,
hula practitioners and students from Ke Kula ‘O ‘Ehunuikaimalino, and Kealakehe Intermediate and High School; and
WHEREAS, La‘i‘ōpua 2020 is requesting funds to purchase COVID test kits for students, musicians, hula practitioners, and video production crew in compliance with Center for Disease Control
and Prevention guidelines; and
WHEREAS, one of the Department of Liquor Control’s goals is to support organizations and programs that promote health, safety, and welfare of the community in a drug- and alcohol-free
environment; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 6 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant
to La‘i‘ōpua 2020 for expenses relating to its Kona Mele Project.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
