Aloha mai kakou Hawaii County Council members, Dale I am submitting written testimony in support of Bill No. 102 to place "No parking signs"along the section of Highway 137, Kalapana-Kapoho Beach road, facing and abutting Kehena Beach. For the last 20-30 years, this place has been a hazardous situation when approaching, driving thru and leaving the area. It has gotten worse in the last 10 years. Many people are misusing the area, parking along the pavement, leaving cars doors open, standing on the road, selling food out of the back of cars all while traffic is trying to pass by. There is drug trafficking occurring alongside the road, numerous people trespassing into peoples properties or parking in their driveways. It is out of control! There seems to be no respect for residents who frequently use this road and it is a matter of time before another tragedy occurs. Let's not forget the incident that occured last year with 28-year-old Maile Kalanui who was sent to Queens Hospital in critical condition, they were frequenting the Kehena area when their car was hijacked and she was hit by her own car. The signs will help to deter people from parking and using the beach. It is time for change and for us to have a safe place to live, drive and be in our island homes. I fully support the placement of the signs along the section of Highway 137, Kalapana-Kapoho road in the Kehena beach area and I ask for your support as our county council to support this bill. I appreciate your time and dedication to our community. Mahalo nui loa, Leila Kealoha Lifelong Resident of lower Puna Coma. o• Ref. To: T mill Ref. Bate J'AN 1 L422
