Aloha County Council,
I think the intentions are good but please do not pass bill 102. This will make a fairly balanced situation into a
horrible situation for the surrounding neighborhoods. I notice that the people who asked for this change/bill do not
live close to Kehena beach. I have lived in the neighborhood for 20 years and it's a very peaceful and beautiful
neighborhood with very narrow streets all throughout the neighborhood. Bill 102 is not very well thought through.
You have to consider that many people will park inside the little neighborhood streets. This will endanger the safety
in our neighborhoods in multiple ways. One problem is that no fire truck will be able to pull from red road into the
neighborhood if there is just a single car parked. Also,there is not really space next to the red road for people and kids
to walk from their further away parking spots to the beach safely. The way it is now, when you drive along red road
you will clearly see where the beach is because the cars are parked left and right, which causes cars to slow down.
This really helps to make it safe for people, elderly and families with kids to safely reach the beach or cross the street.
If parking will be spread out all along the highway and into subdivisions, people walking to their cars will be
endangered. On paper this might look like a good idea, in reality it is a very BAD idea. Believe me, I have lived here
and walked the neighborhood for many years. There is always enough space for emergency vehicles to get through, I
have never seen Red Road to even going down to I lane. If access to Pohoiki with trucks, boats etc is a concern, that
problem should be completely resolved with the restoration of Pohoiki road.
Another point I would like to make is that we cherish and love this area because of the outrageously beautiful scenery.
Small county road, waving palm trees, crashing waves on the black cliffs, bird sounds. I can not imagine that I will
now have to walk by and drive by a forest of 15 or so red/white no parking signs. The red road is a scenic byway for a
reason. I think we can do much better than this. I understand that maybe a year ago people were very freaked out and
concerned due to covid but NOW we are in a position to take a deep breath and consider better solutions then
plastering our beautiful aina with no parking signs.
