ROLL CALL: Present: Mr. Holeka Goro Inaba, Chair Mr. Matt Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder, Vice Chair (came in later) Mr. Aaron S. Y. Chung, Member Ms. Maile Medeiros David, Member Ms. Ashley L. Kierkiewicz, Member Ms. Heather L. Kimball, Member Ms. Susan L. K. Lee Loy, Member Mr. Herbert M. "Tim" Richards, III, Member (came in later) Ms. Rebecca Villegas, Member (came in later, via videoconference) STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ON AGENDA ITEMS: Change Order Of Business: COMMUNI- CATIONS: The Chair directed the Committee to proceed to the next order of business, Statements from the Public on Agenda Items. (There were none.) As directed by the Chair and with no objection from the Council Members, the following item were taken out of order. The Chair directed the Committee to proceed to the next order of business, Communications. Comm. 579: NOMINATION OF JENNIFER YADAO TO THE LIQUOR COMMISSION From Mayor Mitchell D. Roth, dated December 21, 2021, requesting the Council's review and confirmation. Requires Council Confirmation by: February 11, 2022 (Section 13-4(k) Hawaii County Charter) PRPSC-22 Vote on Comm. 579: Ms. Lee Loy moved to recommend confirmation of (Approved) the nomination of Ms. Jennifer Yadao to the Liquor Commission. Seconded by Ms. David and carried by the following voice vote: January 18, 2022 Ayes: Committee Members Chung, David, Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder, Kierkiewicz, Kimball, Lee Loy, Richards, and Chair Inaba — 6. Noes: None. Absent: Committee Member Richards, Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder, and Villegas — 3. Excused: None. Committee Members spoke in favor of the nomination. CHR. INABA: And with that we can move on to Communication 176.9, please Mr. Clerk. Return to Order The Chair directed the Committee to return to the order of Business. of Business: Comm. 176.9: REQUESTS A PRESENTATION OF THE JANUARY 2022 HAWEO AWARD TO REUBEN PUKAHI, POLICE OFFICER — HAWAI`I POLICE DEPARTMENT From Council Member Holeka Goro Inaba, dated December 14, 2021. Motion to Close File: Ms. Lee Loy moved to close file on Comm. 176.9. Seconded by Ms. David. CHR. INABA: Before we get started with this communication today, we're doing something a little different for this Haweo Award. And I'd like to reference Communication 176. 10, which was submitted by Council Member Villegas. And it's to acknowledge and recognize additional people who were apart of this rescue mission last year. And we have joining us in Kona chambers today, these individuals and our representatives from the Hawaii Police Department. First of all I'd call Sergeant Hardy up to the table and if he would first do the honors of introducing our nominee of the Haweo Award. And then we'll also be sharing a little bit about the others who are here today, as well. Page 2 PRPSC-22 CERTIFICATE OF APPRECIATION: Vote on Comm. 176.9: Filed ORDER OF RESOLUTIONS BILLS FOR ORDINANCES January 18, 2022 (Note: At this time, the January 2022 Haweo Award was presented to Reuben Pukahi, Police Officer from the Hawaii Police Department in recognition of going above and beyond the call of duty. Police Sergeant Michael Hardie came forward and provided statements regarding his exceptional activities in service to the community. Committee Member Villegas also recognized the following members of the community who assisted Officer Pukahi during the lifesaving event: Kayden Baker, Herbie Lee, Damien Nelson, Ryan Hart Jensen, and Nicolas White.) The motion to close file on Comm. 176.9 was carried by the following voice vote: Ayes: Committee Members Chung, David, Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder, Kierkiewicz, Kimball, Lee Loy, Richards, Villegas, and Chair Inaba — 9. Noes: None. Absent: None. Excused: None. CHR. INABA: This is the end of our agenda. The Chair directed the Committee to proceed to the next order of business, Order of Resolutions. (There were none.) The Chair directed the Committee to proceed to the next order of business, Bills for Ordinances. (There were none.)
