Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 305-22, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 305-22, transmitted by the Councilmember Maile Medeiros David via
Communication No. 592 dated January 18, 2022, awards a Public Access, Open Space, and Natural
Resources Preservation Maintenance Fund stewardship grant to Na Mamo O Kawa.
This resolution approves a grant of$117,577.48 to Na Mamo O Kawa, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
organization, to protect,preserve, and restore the Kawa properties in Ka`u, pursuant to Section 10-16(h)
of the Hawaii County Charter.
Ms. David provided background on the measure, clarifying that Na Mamo O Kawa amended their
2021 application as requested and that Parks & Recreation gave a positive recommendation for the
grant. Ms. David then thanked Na Mamo O Kawa Director Kai McGuire and other members of the 3
organization for their work.
By Committee Chair Matt Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder's request, Ms. David confirmed that a resolution is the
appropriate process to move funding for stewardship grants.
Pursuant to Section 10-16(h)(1), Hawaii County Charter, an award of a Public Access, Open Space, and
Natural Resources Preservation Maintenance Fund stewardship grant shall be by council resolution.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 305-22, and
recommends its adoption.
