Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 307-22, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 307-22, transmitted by the Council Member Maile Medeiros David via
Communication No. 594 dated January 20, 2022, awards a Public Access, Open Space, and Natural
Resources Preservation Maintenance Fund stewardship grant to Ho`omalu Ka`u.
This resolution approves a grant of$24,275 to Ho`omalu Ka`u, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization,
to protect, preserve, and restore the Kahua `Olohu Kaunamano properties in Ka`u,pursuant to
Section 10-16(h) of the Hawaii County Charter.
Ms. David provided background on the measure, clarifying that Na Mamo O Kawa amended their
2021 application as requested and that Parks & Recreation gave a positive recommendation for the
grant. Ms. David then thanked Keoni Fox and others from Na Mamo O Kawa for testifying on the
measure and for their work for the organization.
Committee Member Susan L. K. Lee Loy thanked Ms. David for forwarding the resolution.
Pursuant to Section 10-16(h)(1), Hawaii County Charter, an award of a Public Access, Open Space, and
Natural Resources Preservation Maintenance Fund stewardship grant shall be by council resolution.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 307-22, and
recommends its adoption. E
