No. 331-22 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Hilo, Hawaii <br /> TIME: 9:00 a.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 331-22, reports as follows: <br /> Resolution No. 331-22, transmitted by Finance Director Deanna S. Sako via Communication No. 648 <br /> dated February 17, 2022, authorizes the Office of the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the <br /> State of Hawaii, Department of Budget and Finance. <br /> Federally-derived funds of$5 million would be used to assist Hawaii County households that <br /> directly or indirectly experienced financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic and can <br /> demonstrate a risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability. <br /> Per Committee Member H61eka Goro Inaba's request, Housing Administrator Susan Kunz provided <br /> background on the fund, adding that residents can apply through one of the six partnered nonprofit <br /> organizations. <br /> Per Committee Chair Matt Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder's request, Ms. Kunz provided a fund expiration <br /> estimate of about five years. Ms. Kunz then clarified that this fund is for renters only. <br /> Mr. Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder requested that Ms. Kunz provide the amount of funding left in each <br /> assistance program to ensure accurate communication to the public.
