VETERANS CEMETERY DEVELOPMENT AND EXPANSION ASSOCIATION, INC., TO CONSTRUCT A VIETNAM WAR MEMORIAL.
WHEREAS, the West Hawai‘i Veterans Cemetery Development and Expansion Association, Inc., (WHVCDEA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization consisting of veteran organizations, individual
veterans, and citizens that have organized and facilitated innumerable projects at the West Hawai‘i Veterans Cemetery-Pu‘u Ho‘omaha O Na Po‘e Koa O Hawai‘i Komohana (WHVC) in honor
of our veterans; and
WHEREAS, WHVC is one of three state-owned veterans’ cemeteries in the nation that has received the honor of a “Shrine Status” designation by the Veterans Administration (VA); and
WHEREAS, WHVCDEA will be constructing a Vietnam War Memorial at WHVC to pay tribute, with honor and respect, to Vietnam War veterans and their families; and
WHEREAS, the Hawai‘i State Office of Veterans’ Services and the Hawai‘i State Department of Defense have approved plans for the construction of a Vietnam War Memorial at WHVC; and
WHEREAS, WHVCDEA has requested funds to assist with costs associated with the construction of a Vietnam War Memorial at WHVC; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation works in partnership with WHVCDEA and is supportive of its efforts to maintain and improve WHVC; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide
a grant to WHVCDEA to construct a Vietnam War Memorial at WHVC.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
