Aloha Chair Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder,Vice Chair Kimball, and fellow members of the Hawaii County Finance
Committee,
Thanks for this opportunity to share this testimony of full support for Resolution 307-22 for the PONC
stewardship award funding of Ho`omalu Ka`u ($24,275.00) to continue their maintenance efforts
of the Kahua `Olohu property below Na`alehu town in the Ka`u District. Board members and community
volunteers with Ho`omalu Ka`u have worked hard to restore and protect the natural resources and cultural
history of this property, and seek to perpetuate cultural practices including the re-establishment of
makahiki games on this site in the coming years. I look forward to learning more about their successes and
encourage you to pass this resolution at the Finance Committee meeting on Feb 9th.
Mahalo for your time and consideration, and most importantly for continuing to support PONC land
acquisition and stewardship projects across Hawaii Island.
