HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOM 0595.026 2020-2022 A-Bay's Island Grill is in full support of the Kumu Hou project and the positive influence this addition will bring to local businesses, the community and the Island. As a restaurant that has a large local clientele we know that growth and sustainability of our business is still reliant on a strong level of tourism. Even with strong local support it is difficult for local businesses to stay profitable and consistent during the slower seasons. The Kumu Hou development will help ensure tourism levels stay up for the duration of the year providing jobs and revenue for local businesses. Since the rise in time-share style units within the resort over the past few years we have noticed a IaMe shift in the type of clientele that comes to the Waikoloa Resort. The clientele that buy time-share u spend more money on local businesses, especially during these shoulder seasons. With shoulderCD seasons being more and more busy this takes a huge weight off of businesses who plan their staffing and supply levels month to month. Kumu Hou will help surrounding businesses keep full time employees on year-round, rather than having to lay people off during slower times. c With the recent real estate boom it is become increasingly difficult to fill entry level and hospitality - industry specific positions with employees that live within a reasonable distance from the resorts because of lack of housing. There was very little affordable housing within a close radius to the resorts even prior to the recent real estate boom. The proposal to develop employee housing within the resort has been a dire need and is a huge step for helping in the fight to fill job positions while still providing an opportunity for local residents to fill those jobs. The Waikoloa Land Company have always been great stewards of the land and we know that their vision is to benefit Hawaii Island in a pono way. For all of these reasons we are one hundred percent in support of this development. Mahalo, Brian Flynn Owner @ A-Bay's Island Grill Comm. No. "7 Ref. To: Ref. Date
