Subject: No to Waikoloa golf course rezone
Aloha no kakou, my name is Damien Kenison, I am a resident of Hookena. I am submitting this testimony in
opposition to bills 112 and 115. Although the golf course causes pollution due to runoff, a development of this
magnitude will have a catastrophic impact to our coral reefs and nearshore marine resources.
As usual, the caveat of affordable housing is added as a way to distract lawmakers and the public from the damage I
rhat will be caused by construction, sewage and disruption of the water table that feeds our limn and fish spawning
areas. Governor Ige's 30x30 Holomua Initiative calls for the protection of 30% of our coastline by 2030. Let
Waikoloa be the shining example that government truly cares for the people it serves and stop the big corporations
who exploit our natural resources from decimating the coast and ocean resources that attract tourists and allow our
local population to enjoy the i'a for its beauty as well as for sustenance. Hookena's conservation efforts seeks to
address the problem of illegal and inappropriate harvesting of marine life and also the irresponsible development of
our coastline which negatively impacts the narrow reef system along the West Hawaii coastline. Please keep Hawaii
Island free from further pollution causing projects of this sort and reject bills 112 and 115 for our keiki and
mo'opuna.
Ke Aloha Nunui,
CD
