Dear Chair Kierkiewicz.
My name is Shane Nobriga and I am the Golf Course Superintendent for Waikoloa Beach j
Resort. I am a strong supporter of the Kumu Hou Project. I was very excited to hear the project's
plans of building Workforce Affordable Rental Housing for local residents.
For the past 22 years,I've been commuting to Waikoloa Beach Resort five and sometimes six
days per week from the Puna District and Laupahoehoe. My drive to and from work totaled four
fours on the road,not counting the time spend at work away from my family.Although this was
the sacrifice,I needed to make to support my family,this daily drive became very taxing on my
body,vehicles and budget. It also took a negative toll on my family because I found the only
thing that I wanted to do on my days off was rest. The time spent away from my family traveling
to and from work;I will never be able to get that back. Attending my daughter's school functions
and sporting events is a thing of the past. I've missed out on a great deal of time spent with my
family had affordable housing been available here in the Waikoloa area.
For this reason,I am a firm supporter of this project.Knowing there will be an opportunity for
people like me to have a chance to live minutes away from work will only be a step in the
positive direction.Doing so creates healthier family relationships and decreases the physical and
financial strain from driving across the island to get to work,as many people still do today.
Thank you so much for considering allowing this project to help provide a better duality of life
for the working community.
